He who Loves God

And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.” Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son—blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.” So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba. (Gen 22:12-19)

The scripture here was written by Moses around 3500 years ago from now. But about 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ came and through Him, all these things were fulfilled. It’s amazing. It’s extraordinary. That which our God wants to give us is truly the best, things that we never have thought of, which are beyond man’s imagination. He is not stingy; rather He desires to give us more than what we can even imagine. Even so, He would not toss those things to the dogs. He would only give to those that are worthy to receive them. That is why He has made sure that the arrogant and the wise cannot see them. So who is able to see them? Only those that love God are able to see them.

So God sent His Son to the world, not to give to just anybody but those who are worthy to receive Him. Thus when man expressed the utmost love he could show to God, that is where God also promised. Since God foreknew that He would send His Son to mankind, when He saw Abraham’s faith and how he sacrificed his son to God, He promised Abraham as thus. “Since you did not withhold your only son from Me, I will also not withhold My Son but give Him to you”. Here, God referred to His Son as ‘Abraham’s seed’. Though He said “in your seed”, He is not a descendant of Abraham’s lineage but God. And God called the seed of God as “your seed”.

The reason God created mankind was actually to send His seed to the earth. Thus in Malachi 2:5, it is written, “But did He not make them one, having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring.” He seeks God’s seed. If we directly translate it from the original language, it would be, “He seeks God’s seed”. In this way, God promised Abraham to give His seed and through that seed, that his descendants would become as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Furthermore, all nations on earth will be blessed on account of his seed. After God confirmed Abraham’s faith and how he loved God, He gave this incredible promise to him. He did so at the same place where Abraham was going to sacrifice his son on Mount Moriah. God had a ram prepared on Mount Moriah and had Abraham sacrifice the ram to Him in the place of his son Isaac. Abraham’s son was meant to die because the mouth of God had spoken. However, God had prepared a ram that would die in the place of Abraham’s son which was then sacrificed as an offering. That is why it was called Jehovah Jireh. The place is called Jehovah Jireh which means God will provide. What did He prepare? The coming of God’s Son to that land was prepared on that land. In the same place where man’s love for God was confirmed such that he offered his son to God, God would also give His Son.

Let’s read 2 Chronicles 3:1. Let’s begin. “Now Solomon began to build the house of the Lord at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.” Solomon built the temple at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah. This is where the temple of Jerusalem was built-on, Mount Moriah. God gave such an incredible blessing to us, and He did so at the same place where man demonstrated his utmost love towards God. He gave to whom it was deserving.

Hence, we who have already received the Son of God must in turn, demonstrate our greatest love to God. It is our turn to express our love. And in the same place, our God would display His greatest glory to us. It’s truly wonderful, this relationship of loving each other. It is a relationship that we cannot find in this world, for in this world, everyone is trying to trample and crush one another. The relationship between our God and His Son is that of love and honor for one another and God has invited us into that relationship. So now, God lifts us up and we exalt God, and then God exalts us again, and this repeats continually. However, if that happens to stop, where God exalted someone but he does not do anything more, then that person would not be able to experience what is to come thereafter.

In this way, a truly wonderful blessing has been promised to us. We now have to do our part and by that, we may feel as though we are something great. But what we are doing now is really nothing in comparison to the glory that God will later reveal to us. God reveals Himself where people love Him. And because they love Him, they believe in Him. The reason people say that they can’t believe in God or find it hard to believe is because they don’t love God. For example, let’s say that a woman likes this particular man. But I saw that man going out with another woman, holding hands. So I tell her what I saw. Would she believe what I say? No she wouldn’t. She would instead tell me that I probably saw the wrong guy. She would be in denial. Why doesn’t she believe? Because she loves him. So she doesn’t believe even if I tell her the truth. In other words, if you love someone, you want to trust them. But some people refuse to believe even if there is hard evidence. Why don’t they believe? Because they don’t love or even like God. So if a person does not believe, it is not just unbelief, but he doesn’t even like God. If one says that he cannot believe in God, it is not because he can’t but because he doesn’t want to. Let’s not become such a person but the one that loves God. And where we love God, God would reveal to us what He has prepared.

So what is love? Love is to honor. It means to honor God. God loves us. Therefore He honors us. He has great respect for us. We have already received God’s love. There is even greater glory in store for us which we are yet to witness and experience. Let us be those who truly love God so that we may see all that glory. Let us pray for that.

God our Father, thank you for promising us with this magnificent glory in Jesus Christ. For You have prepared an incredible blessing which is beyond what we can imagine, help us to have the faith that is worthy of that blessing, and have the love for God. Help us to be obedient souls. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
