Mrs. Kang Soon Farewell Service

Overseer Sung-Hyun Kim

A Grain of Wheat That Bore Much Fruit

– In Loving Memory of the Late Mrs. Kang Soon –

Clothed in strength and courage,
Harboring a gentle and kind heart—
Mother of our overseer and his wife,
Mother to us all!

Even just being pregnant is hard enough as it is,
Yet without a moment to care for the twins in your womb,
You gave your life to save even more souls.
Treading on muddy ground until your soles cracked,
A mother who shed tears to wipe the tears of many souls.

Obedient hands and feet, lips of prayer, burning heart,
Your longing for the church that the Lord loves—
God received them and built Sungrak Church.

You refused our desperate pleas to flee
From the dangers of a house
Threatened by gloved sect,
And remained with the heart, “If I perish, I perish.”

From your frail and gentle frame,
We remember the thunderous roar of your prayers.

Not even able to stretch your legs to rest,
Curled up on a worn-out chair,
We remember how you would fall asleep in prayer.

We remember the trembling voice
That urged us not to sow division,
But to love the church and the overseer as we love the Lord.

This heart already aching with longing,
This regret for what we could never fully repay,
This yearning to follow in even the shadow of your footsteps—
We hope to repay it all through the love you so widely poured out.
We long for the glorious church to be built through us.

May the Lord gently touch the cheek marked with red handprints,
May He soothe the heart scorched black by sorrow.
Until that day we meet again in the place of comfort and rest,
We, too, will live with heaven in our sights.

Now, just as you so earnestly desired all your life,
We will build the church firmly—together with our overseer.
