Persecution

(Matthew 10:16-23)

Preaching the Gospel is the work to save souls trapped by the devil. Therefore, the devil will not simply stand by and watch without taking action. The devil will actively obstruct the work by all means, and above all, persecute the laborers of the Lord through people.

1. The Inevitable Persecution

While Christians may experience periods of peaceful living in their faith, such situations are only temporary. The devil, who aims to spoil the work of the Lord, continues to operate even during seemingly peaceful moments and will openly reveal his true nature whenever possible. Persecution against Christians can work through religious means, secular governments, and even within their own family. As the last day approaches, the persecution that the Christians should endure will intensify progressively.

2. Be Shrewd and Innocent

The Lord said that those who endure persecutions until the end will receive salvation, and to achieve this, we must be as wise as snakes and as innocent as doves. If we are only shrewd but lack honesty, it becomes easy to distort the legitimacy of the gospel. In contrast, if we are only innocent but lack adequate judgment and the ability to respond appropriately, the work of the Lord is difficult to be carried out. We do not need to intentionally rush into persecution, but when faced with persecution, we should boldly embrace it, recognizing it as an opportunity to become pure and ensure our salvation.

3. The Opportunity of Abundant Blessing

Enduring persecution becomes challenging when we try to avoid even minor difficulties within the church. Moreover, pursuing selfish desires within the church can lead to acts of persecution against it. The church serves as a way God patiently endures His wrath, which will be poured out upon the world. However, for those who respond to God’s grace, the church becomes an opportunity to receive abundant blessings. Let us cherish and make the most of the opportunity granted to us by the Lord and by the forefathers of faith through their endurance of persecution. By doing so, let us passionately fulfill the ministry of preaching the gospel.
