Insight

(Ephesians 3:5-6)

“which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.”

1. Paul’s Method of Receiving Revelation

Paul used the term “insight” to describe the revelation he received. This term refers to understanding or penetration. Paul’s reception of revelation was not imposed unilaterally upon him by any transcendent capability, regardless of his intellect, emotions or willingness. Instead, he actively engaged in discerning and analyzing various circumstances, which led to his profound understanding of the underlying essence. In other words, he did not receive sudden knowledge through inspiration; rather, he absorbed the personality and promise of the Lord into his being.

2. The Receipt of Indirect Revelation as Saints

How did people confirm the fact that Paul received revelation? “In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight!” It means that Paul wrote down the first revelation he received, and whoever reads the revelation can comprehend it through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Saints do not forcefully believe in doctrine; instead, they come to receive indirect revelation by operating their spiritual insight after reading the revealed word written in the Bible.

3. The Work of Revelation through the Entire Personality

Today, the church pulpit is the primary place where revelation is fulfilled for saints. When a servant of God preaches, it is not merely about conveying biblical knowledge, teaching doctrines, or sharing information about faith. Through the sermon of His appointed servant, God conveys His emotions, sentiments, and heart. Therefore, as we listen to the sermon, let us recognize it as the word of God and have trust that He uses the entire personality of the servant who proclaims it. Let us open our hearts to the Word and entrust ourselves to God’s present work to save us.
