The Son of God
(Romans 1:3-4)
“So what—you’re saying the Son of God didn’t really come into the world for us? That He came for some other reason, and since He was already here, He went ahead and saved us too? Well, I guess we just got lucky—we happened to gain salvation.”
1. The Reason He Came in the Flesh
He who was equal with God became flesh and poured out His grace upon us. He who knew no sin took on our sins and went to the cross, even to the point of death. But if such words come from our lips, can we truly say we know the gospel? The reason the Son of God came into this world is clear: He came to give His life as a ransom for many. (Matt. 20:28)
2. An Irreversible Change
The One who was equal with God became man—not merely to humble Himself before God, but to save us. Our salvation was not some incidental by-product that appeared by chance in the process of His incarnation. He came so that we might receive the life of God, so that we might be delivered from sorrow and despair, from the bonds of curse and death. Even if it meant bringing about an eternal, irreversible change, He came to give us life.
3. The Love That Came for Me
When the One who is God became man through the lineage of David according to prophecy, His Sonship was clearly declared in history. This was the precise fulfillment of what God had promised through the prophets. Our salvation is not by chance—it is the fruit of God’s love. Let us not take this love lightly. Instead, let us discover our true identity in the confession: “The Son of God came for me.” And with hearts overwhelmed by the love that gave up everything for us, let us receive Him with our whole being.
