They Who Are the Called

(Romans 1:5-7)

God’s calling is never about an individual alone. It is tied to the great work of glorifying His name, and for this reason, God regards His calling toward us as profoundly important. He never gives up on those who are called according to His purpose.

1. Those Who Are Beloved
God has called us because we are His beloved. The love of this world always comes with conditions, but God’s love does not. It is a love that bears responsibility and acts upon it—unlike the love of this world. We are not worthy to receive such love, yet through Christ, God has opened the way for us to receive it.

2. Those Who Are Set Apart for God
Those who have received such wondrous love and an irrevocable calling are not merely churchgoers—they are saints, set apart for God. “Saint” is a glorious title, specially prepared for those who live for His glory. Despite our weaknesses, through this calling we have received a royal priesthood to participate in God’s redemptive work. This calling was not given to us because of our merit, but purely by grace. Therefore, let us not hide because of our weaknesses, but acknowledge who we are—those set apart to exalt the name of Christ.

3. Those Who Remain Faithful
To those who are beloved of God and called to be saints, God has given a blessing—grace and peace. Through this blessing, we endure the world and press on toward eternal victory. But do you still wonder, “Would God really call someone like me?” That very longing in your heart—the desire to believe in Jesus, to repent of sin, and to live in obedience to the Lord—is the evidence that God is already working within you. His calling is never in vain. Whatever situation we are in, let us be faithful where God has called us. We are the most joyful souls in the universe—the ones God will never, ever give up on.
