The Evidence Within

(Romans 1:19)

No person in this world can claim that they knew nothing of God. God Himself has placed within every person evidence that enables us to perceive Him.

1. Helen Keller’s Confession
This inner evidence is so powerful that it shines even when the senses are completely closed. Helen Keller—who could neither see nor hear—testified to this. When Miss Sullivan first tried to explain God to her, Helen said, “I already knew Him. I just didn’t know His name.” Even before knowledge reached her, her spirit was already sensing her Creator.

2. An Excuse to Enjoy Sin
When people say they do not know God, it is not because they lack the ability to perceive Him. They reject the light within them so they can enjoy sin, pretending not to know God in order to justify a life driven by their desires. The light has already come into every person, yet the sweetness of sin drives people to block that light with all their might. That is the heart of the tragedy.

3. A Life That Responds to Revelation
If even those who live with only a faint sense of God still vaguely acknowledge Him and fear His judgment, then how much more should we—who have received the clear love of the cross and the revelation of the Word—live in response? We owe God a debt of love we can never repay. So let us lay down every excuse, every doubt that we use to justify sin and answer His revelation with true faith. Let us receive the love that has been reaching out to save us, and glorify God—not with fear, but with burning gratitude and devotion.
