The Court of Heaven Where Manipulation Fails

(Romans 2:2-3)

Many people today take God’s justice lightly, optimistically believing that judgment will never come. Just because nothing happens even when they sin, they think this way. However, the presumption that God’s silence is proof of His forgiveness will eventually prove to be a fatal misjudgment that leads to their destruction.

1. The Sin of Betrayal: Presuming on Grace
God’s goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering are His painful considerations for sinners. However, if we presume on this beautiful grace and use it as an opportunity to refuse repentance, it becomes a wicked act of betrayal that tramples on the Creator’s trust and mercy. The more we ignore God’s goodness, the more our spiritual hesitation vanishes and the guilt we must carry increases at an accelerated pace. This accumulated sin will lead to a heavier responsibility than any other outward act of sin.

2. Spiritual Sclerosis: Draining Spiritual Life
Hardening of the heart and holding out against God’s favor is a fatal “spiritual sclerosis” that drags the soul to hell. The history of Israel was a continuous cycle of such hardness that stood against God’s patience and caused Him pain. Even Jesus, who took pity on sinners, looked upon the stubborn who refused to repent at the very scene of mercy with grief and anger. A hardened heart is the root of evil that directly opposes God’s goodness and drains our spiritual life.

3. Treasuring up Wrath and Judgment That Will Come Soon
Just because punishment does not follow immediately, it does not mean the responsibility for sin has disappeared. In every moment of hardness and impenitent heart, God’s fearsome wrath is being stored up proportionately in the unseen storehouses of eternity. On that day when His righteous judgment is revealed, the wrath that has been treasured up for so long will become a massive disaster and pour out all at once upon those who lived a life of misjudgment. While we still have the opportunity today, let us break our hardened hearts and return to Jesus Christ, who makes us new, to find the way of life.
