The Condition for Victory
(Ephesians 6:12)
“The Devil? He’s nothing. I know the Bible inside and out—there’s no way he can fool me. It’s people who don’t know the truth who get scared. Me? I’m totally safe.” Do you perhaps have this kind of mindset? If so, you are bound to lose the fight against the devil—because you are utterly blind to who he really is.
1. The Gap in Fighting Power
Our life of faith is a battle for life itself. The problem is that we are fighting enemies who are not flesh and blood. Without people even realizing it, they implant thoughts into people’s minds and stir up emotions in their hearts. As a result, people are convinced they are acting of their own will —when in fact, they are being manipulated by the devil. And remember, the devil is a master of sowing division. Humans are no match for such a devil.
2. Awareness of Our Weakness
We often speak of fighting against the devil, but in reality, we should be up against the most formidable and aggressive force in existence. Compared to his great organized army, we humans are desperately weak. Anyone who thinks they have a permanent defense system against such forces has already made themselves an easy target for the devil. To endure in this battle against the devil, we must begin by acknowledging our own weakness.
3. Assurance of Victory
Yet we do not need to be afraid. Our Lord has already won the victory—He is greater than all. Though we are powerless on our own, with God’s power, it is more than possible. This is the power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead and seated Him at the throne in heaven. Because of this power, our names are written in heaven, and heaven has become our home. Our battle is a battle that has already been won. So let us acknowledge our weakness before God. Let us move forward with the power, strength, and way that He provides.
