The Seal of the Holy Spirit

(Ephesians 1:13-14)

After an important document is written, a seal is placed on it to prove the veracity of the document or indicate its ownership. Similarly, God showed that we are His possession by sealing us with the promised Holy Spirit.

1. I Will Protect You
When God sealed us with the Holy Spirit, it was a sign of His willingness to protect us from destruction. God protects us from all kinds of temptations and trials, and He will particularly free us from the suffering of the last days. This work of the Holy Spirit is achieved through the church. With the words proclaimed by the church – God awakens us so that we do not return to our old selves, and He guides us so we can walk on the path of righteousness, thereby, protecting us from stumbling.

2. I Will Surely Give You an Inheritance
As God promised, the Holy Spirit descended on us, and He guarantees that God’s promises toward us are a reality. An initial installment is the start of subsequent installments to be paid. Likewise, when the Holy Spirit descended on us, God was assuring us of the inheritance He is going to give in heaven, and He was giving us a taste of it beforehand. Therefore, if we received the Holy Spirit, we should not doubt the inheritance of heaven, but we should do our best to prepare while on earth, so that we can receive it later.

3. You Will Praise My Glory
God did not seal us merely so we could acquire good things. God’s purpose is farther-reaching than this. God wants us to praise His glory. He redeemed us because we belong to Him, and He ultimately did it for Himself. Since He guaranteed that He would protect us to the end, let’s continually eliminate our old selves through the word, and praise God’s glory by changing ourselves to become worthy of a holy inheritance.
