He Prayed That His Disciples Would Be Sanctified

(John 17:15~26)

Overseer Sung-Hyun Kim

God
is the sacred One.
He
revealed the Son to the world (Jn 1:18),
but He declared that the Father and the Son are one (Jn 10:30).
The Son proclaimed the truth
that the Father is in Him and the Son is in the Father (Jn 14:10).
He was in the world because the Father sent Him (Jn 14:11-12).
The Son said that He says whatever the Father says (Jn 12:49)
and that every deed of the Son was ordered by the Father.
The Son declared that He loved the world
in the same way that the Father loved the Son (Jn 15:9),
and said that the Father and the Son are not separate but one.
Jesus refused to be separated or depart from the Father,
for the truth is that they are one.
The Son is holy, just like the Father is holy,
and since the Son is holy, those who dwell in Him are holy.
Similarly, He prayed that they should be sanctified by the truth (Jn 17:17-19).
He declared that knowing that the Father sent the Son to the world
is eternal life (Jn 6:38-40).
He also said that everyone is one in the one and only Father (Jn 17:11).
○ When talking about the truth,
Jesus said that the truth is that the Father and the Son are one.
He therefore prayed, “Sanctify them by the truth.”
○ As the Son was sanctified through the Father,
the Son prayed that those who dwell in Him should unite
with the Father and the Son and be sanctified.
○ Since holiness belongs only to the Father
and the Son belonged to the Father and was sanctified,
the Son said that those who belong to Him in the world are sanctified.
※ These declarations from Jesus are truth.
We should understand the truth and be sanctified by it.
As the Son is the Father’s pleasure, we should become one by the truth.
