2016.07.31_The Precious Blood and Life
in 2016 Lord's Day, Sung Hyun Kim[John 6:52-59]
God
sent His Son to the world
to shed His blood in order to save mankind.
Though God must punish man
when He sees sin in him,
He gives grace
when He sees His Son’s blood (He 13:12).
Sin leads to death and destruction,
however
blood can do away sins (Lev 17:11).
The power to wash away man’s sins forever
is only found
in the blood of God’s Son (Rm 3:25).
Christ calls those who have been washed by His blood
as His church,
and commissions them with the duty to proclaim His blood.
This is so that
we may be without shame before the Father
as those who will share in His glory later (Rm 8:17).
○ Let us not forget that the Lord’s precious blood
covers our sins from the eyes of the Father
who watches us.
○ For us who proclaim the Lord’s blood,
emptying ourselves, sacrifice, consideration for the Church,
and obedience to the pastor are absolute and fundamental (He 13:17).
○ In order to share in the Lord’s glory in heaven,
let us bear the suffering together
even if there is no glory on earth.
※ Let us grow our church together
and bring joy to the Lord who leads us.
The Life of God lies in the Blood of God Most people misunderstand God’s unconditional love toward humans and think it is His duty. However, God does not unconditionally accept or love sinners; that is because God does not lay down His righteousness. For God to accept mankind, it is necessary to remove the burden of sin that mankind has; it is impossible unless God takes away the burden for mankind. That is why God sent His Son into the world to take the death penalty, thereby making the blood of the Son pay for the sins of mankind. We have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins (Ephesians 1:7). It was not easy for God to go through the process of taking the weight of mankind’s sins, but the Lord gave us God’s blood in the face of that heavy burden. “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.” (John 6:53) The blood of Jesus Christ is the blood that came down from heaven. That blood has given us life. To fulfill the work of the blood, God has taught the importance of blood. From the time of Cain, God reacted sensitively to the issue of blood, and by commanding the sacrificial offerings of the blood of beasts, He taught the Israelites that the problem of sin could be solved through blood. Eventually, when Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to the world to shed His blood, the work of the blood came to be fulfilled, the work that God had established and prepared. The Church is the Fruit of Christ’s Blood What was left for us by the blood of God is the church. In the church lies the blood of Christ. Acts 20:28 says “Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with His own blood.” God bought His church by His own blood. Thus, church is the place where God places unlimited value, where He also puts His unlimited expectation. From Genesis to Revelation, all of the contents of the Bible unfold based on the blood of God. The fact that the Sod of God sheds His blood is the greatest act of mercy that God has given to man, His extreme endeavor that God poured out for humanity. God has completed the best work for us with all His power, will, and heart. Then what should we do for the church that God bought with His own blood? We are living in the time of grace, but we should not take God’s grace for granted. You must not remain under your old bad habits, disparaging His grace. The reason that God tolerates us is because the Son’s blood is in us. We must be worthy people unto God, who has placed His eyes and heart into His Son’s blood. Those who are sanctified by the Blood are those who have the duty of sprinkling the Blood We must live the life that God expects. The Law of the tabernacle shows what this life is. The Israelites sanctified everything used in the tabernacle by sprinkling the blood of beasts on them. By the same reason, blood was sprinkled on the body of priests and around the tabernacle. Concerning this, Hebrews 9:22 says, “In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Unless they sprinkled blood, there would be no holiness, and without holiness, God would never use it. God sanctified us by the blood of Jesus Christ. The blood of God is neither a symbol nor a concept, but reality. Jesus’ blood in us hides our sins from God. Those who fear death come to not fear death by the blood; those who are desperate do not yield to desperation. The blood also gives us a mind of repentance. That is, it gives us the will of changing our attitudes and running towards God. Hebrews 9:14 says, “How much more, then will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God.” We can be used by God because we have the blood of Christ. Just as the vessels cleansed by blood were used as sanctified tools in the temple, so also can we be charged with the duty of God, since we are cleansed with the precious blood. The duty that we have received is to sprinkle the blood of Christ on others and to deliver that duty to them. As Jesus suffered to sanctify us, it is natural that we endeavor to complete the duty of sprinkling the blood. Let Us fulfill Our Responsibility as Holy Parts As parts of the church that were bought by the Lord’s blood, we have to share the burden of the church. Since in the past we were slaves of sins, all we did was bore the fruits of death. However, we have become free from sins, becoming the holy parts of God, thereby receiving the fruit that leads us to holiness and eternal life. As we have become the body of the Lord, we have to carry out the accompanying responsibility. Jesus’ word, “Drink my blood”, means that we should receive Jesus’ merits of atonement, and His word, “Eat my flesh”, means that we should serve the church. If anyone has gained life by drinking the Lord’s blood, he or she must be used by the Lord, who guides His church. The Lord wants to present us as holy and without blemish and free from accusation in God the Father’s sight (Colossians 1:22). The Lord wants us not to be ashamed when we stand before God the Father, but to enjoy the Lord’s glory together. Even though the gate of salvation is open to anyone, you must not regard the grace of the precious blood as light. Those who received grace are the priests who serve God. You must not neglect the opportunities given to you, but serve the church that God has bought by His blood. In any way, you must not insult or mock Jesus’ blood. If you bring trouble to the church bought by the Lord’s blood, or blaspheme the Holy Spirit’s ministry of testifying to the precious blood, you are insulting Jesus’ blood. You also must not bring trouble to other saints, who have become Christians through the precious blood of Christ. The Lord’s salvation lies in His church. You can never find Jesus’ blood at any place other than the church. We have received life, holiness, power, and hope by the Lord’s blood. Now, you must be the ones who are used according to God’s will.
As I have reached the latter part of life, I have not fear, but the fullness of hope in my soul. The day when I bid farewell to the world, I cannot hope to return back to the world or look back. As far as I know, I cannot meet with my family and children after I die, I can only move forward. For the last sixty years, as I have devoted myself to truth, I have only strived to protect truth without yielding. I have never acted cowardly in order to receive secular honors or worldly benefits, harshly abandoning my own honor. Concerning this, at least, do I deserve to be trusted? I have been fully convinced in the message that I have delivered, and this proves that my message has been full of life. Although someone offered a great chance to receive honor, I rejected it, and although others said some seemingly comforting words to me, I did not listen to them. It is not because of my own innate nature or characteristics, but because of loving and believing truth that I have insisted on the truth with losing my friends, disciples, and even church members. Thus, the power and miraculous signs from truth flowed out like streams of water. If there were no truth in my message, God would take away the power and inspiration that He had given me. I believe that God, who is upright, helps those who are upright. As I do not have many remaining days to deliver the message on the platform, I will spend my precious and invaluable time in a more blessed way. The world speaks the words that belong to the world and the world listens to them, but as we belong to God, we know that those who belong to God listen to this message. How fortunate I am that I have worked by the Holy Spirit and have testified to Jesus’ name for my whole life! Looking back, I find that I am such an unworthy person who has no reason to be praised. However, even if I were a donkey, I would be a donkey for the Lord and go through the narrow gate that He wants me to go through. As an experienced donkey can adjust the pace and direction according to its owner’s intention simply by seeing the shadow of his whip, I will be like that colt and serve the Lord. “Lord! Drive me more! Flog me to run more! Flog me so that this old donkey would not be lazy. Let me have more power so that I would run further and not fall down if I am tired. Now, the path of serving You does not go much further. Please let me not foolishly regret and think ‘If I were a little younger…’ I have poured out all of my heart into teaching my saints. Since they have their own will, they will do the work that the Lord has commanded of them. Let none of us care too much about the world’s voices. This is what the Lord wants. Amen.” [gmedia id = 75]
