The Command to Resemble Jesus’ Service
John 13:12-20
Overseer Sung-Hyun Kim
God
is righteous.
He
sent the Son to the world, and the Son revealed God’s will
like He was commanded (Jn 8:29).
God’s Son was glorified as the Heir (Heb 1:2),
but He lowered Himself and came to the world.
According to the Father’s will in heaven, He became the lowliest man
and served the spirits of mankind (Phil 2:6-8).
The Lord taught His disciples with a maternal heart (Lk 13:34),
and though He was in the form of God, He showed the way to serve others,
as He lowered Himself to honor children (Jn 13:4-5).
Our faith is to seek eternal life (Jn 3:16),
but our lives are for seeking our neighbors (Mt 10:6-8).
Servants serve their Master,
and those who are sent obey the One who sent them.
This is the Lord’s command (Mk 12:31).
If the Lord does not serve us, we have nothing to do with the Lord.
Similarly, if we do not serve our brothers and sisters,
we have nothing to do with them (Jn 13:6-9).
God’s will is that we serve the lowly (1 Pet 5:2-3).
○ Exalting yourself is pride and vanity.
God loves and lifts up the humble,
and deserts the proud.
○ The better your faith is, the more you will lower yourself
and have abundant wisdom to exalt your neighbors above yourself.
God lifts up the humble.
○ You can sincerely serve with a maternal heart.
We should all become believers with maternal hearts.
Humility comes from a maternal heart.
※ The church is not a place to exalt yourself.
It is a place to become lowlier, like Galilee.
Jesus began His work in Galilee.
